Now’s the time
2/28/09

There are things we can do, as locavores, to make obtaining fresh, locally grown food much easier.

Now is the time to consider a summer CSA program. Contact your local farms and see what programs they offer. Many farms work with other farms to provide more than just 18-20 weeks of vegetables. So be on the look out for programs that may offer additional flower, egg, milk, fruit and meat shares as well!

Planting a garden this spring or making that first attempt at a porch garden? Now is the time to get those seeds together. Make a plan for sprouting and planting for season long harvesting. Thinking about starting a garden? Lettuces and tomatoes are good veg to start now, indoors, especially for you first timers. Try it out!

Of course, and indoor herb garden can go a long way. So if you haven’t already, now is the time to plant that herb garden. Basil, oregano, marjoram, and parsley are some easy ones to start with.

Growing your own food is the most local way to eat. And it is a very rewarding project. Try to get your seeds locally as well
